Want to track what phones celebs have….

As you know I work with phones and do Pr bits and bobs (yes I’m very technical in describing my job); well sometimes it can be a little difficult to think of a fresh angle on a handset you’ve written about quite a few times.  I’m currently having this issue with the Blackberry Bold 9900 sim free.

Now don’t get me wrong it’s a pretty immense handset – Blackberry really have done themselves proud there – QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen all in one; speedy little processor; decent camera, nice shape; thinner size – it ticks a hell of a lot of boxes; but there’s only so many times I can write that without getting bored and boring readers – everyone in the tech industry has heard it all before.

So I’ve came up with a new plan lately and was surprised at how easy the information was to find.  My thought was ‘What if I could find a really high profile celebrity who owns the handset and take that angle with my article?’  Literally all I googled was ‘which celebrity owns a Blackberry 9900?’ and a world of results came up, all showing me who owned a Blackberry 9900 sim free – Google and the sites people make never ceases to amaze me.

This site CoolSpotters.com is my favourite as it shows every handset and shows me which celebrities own a Blackberry Bold 9900, even with pictorial evidence just incase I don’t believe the site!

What’s great now is that I’ve found a new simple way to refresh an old or popular story with a new lease of life which may appeal to a new range of readers.  I guess celebrities really do have some use!

And for those who really care about the Bold 9900 here’s an image of it

ooooo isn’t it pretty – Kim Kardashian owns one of these don’t you know :P

I’m going a bit Kindle crazy

So after the disappointment of the iPhone 4S announcement i’ve turned my attention to the Kindle because I’m still undecided on whether I actually like them of not.

I’m a sucker for a physical book but these Kindles do look pretty cool and I like the idea of having a collection of books in one place instead of taking up a whole bookcase – I have a lot of book and not the biggest room so you can see my problem.

Kindle cover

As you’ve gathered by now, I have  a weird way of deciding what gadgets to buy, i look at what accessories are available for it and go from there.  the way i see it, if you’re spending a lot of money on a gadget then you need tobe able to protect it and keep it looking good, so accessories are pretty important.

So i’ve been looking at Kindle covers and I’ve found one which i really really like.  It’s the SD Leather Style case with Light.  First thing is it’s purple my favourite colour, so it gets brownie points straight away for that.  I also like the fact that it is a folio style so it’ll protect all of the Kindle when it’s closed but still gives access to all the ports to keep it fully functioning.  This is good because I hate cases where you have to remove your device to charge it – too much faffing, can’t be doing with it.

But what I really like about this that it’s a Kindle cover with light, so the reading light is included meaning I can use my Kindle at any time of the day anywhere.  This is great because I’m a little ocd in the I have to get to the end of a chapter before I can put a book down, so being able to read for longer is a good and means I’m not going to damage my eyes by straining – I always do it and I know i shouldn’t!

The Kindle cover is made from leather style material too so it’ll be durable but is most definitely affordable because of this – it’s under £20.

So he lies my dilemma – I’ve found some great Kindle accessories but I’m still not 10% convinced on the Kindle.  I know the Kindle Keyboard price has gone down, but I don’t know whether to wait until confirmation of the Kindle Fire being released in the UK before I take the plunge.  Eitehr way I’m sure this case will still be there :)

Why I want a Galaxy Tab 10.1

Last week I was talking about the HTC EVO 3D Sim Free handset which I got to have a little play with at work and really didn’t like – bulky, slow and just slightly redundant :/

I then got my hands on the Blackberry 9900 Sim Free – now this handset was a beauty – it’s thin, fast, have both a touchscreen and a keyboard and it just felt powerful in my hand whereas the EVO 3D felt more like a toy than a machine.

Now I’m trying to get my grimy paws on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 – have written a couple of press releases and a few blog posts about the tablet for work I’ve fallen in love with it without even holding one – this could mean two things – either my writing is that good I can persuade anyone to get one (I doubt it) or the Tab 10.1′s are just really impressive (most likely).

They’re lighter, thinner and faster than the iPad 2 and I must admit that the Android technology they’re packed with really does interest me having been a bit of an Apple Fangirl for a while.  But even more important – they just look really good and the looks of gadgets is something that really appeals to me (shallow Apple FanGirl I know!)

So whilst I’ve been writing all these articles for work, I’ve feel in love with some of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 case styles they sell – especially this one.  Now Zenus is a pretty new brand at work but they’re stuff just seems to be such a high quality and it looks good too (which I think is important when you’re paying over £30 for a case).  This case looks like a folio when it’s closed, but it’s got a kickstand hidden in it, as well as elastics to allow you to hold it in one hand to use your Tab, so I like it’s functionality.

So the reason I want to get a Galaxy Tab 10.1? Partly so I have a reason to buy that case!! How bad is that?

Handsets all round

One of the great things about working for mobile phone accessories supplier is that I get to see a lot of new handsets and pretty cool accessories before anyone else :)

This week we had the SIM Free HTC EVO 3D in the office and I won’t lie I was disappointed.  I’d really got my hopes up about this phone and was even considering getting it as my upgrade  - so when I finally got it in my hands it was like being told Santa isn’t real all over again :(

Looks wise, it’s lovely – bit thicker than the iPhone 4 but it was a lot heavier  - I would have problems putting it in the pockets of my cardigans and some of my jeans because it would weigh them down.  I was willing to let that slide if all the features matched up to my expectations, but they didn’t.

The 3D of the camera made my eyes go really funny, I couldn’t actually focus on the screen so taking a picture would be a nightmare because it would take forever – also it may be good to take 3D pictures but unless you have a 3D TV and your friends have 3D phones you can’t share them! So they’d be no Facebooking your pictures unless you took them in 2D – this kind of makes the 3D a little redundant.

Next I thought I’d look at the 3D games, but O no you can’t because 3D gaming is an add-on you have to buy for the handset – so really all you get is a 3D camera and a heavier phone :/  Honestly I’m not sold but I have got the SIM Free Blackberry 9900 coming into the office tomorrow, so maybe that might convert me back to BB, otherwise it looks like the iPhone 5 will be my next handset.

iPhone 4 cases

I currently use an Angry Birds iPhone 4 case, which I love but it’s getting a little battered and bruised so I’ve decided it’s time to upgrade and update to a new model….. what one is proving to be the question.

Ever since I started work at MobileFun I must admit I’ve become a big of a phone snob and accessories snob – i don’t just want any accessory any more, I know stuff so I want the best!  Unfortunately it seems teh case I want doesn’t exist.

I took a nose at the iPhone 4 cases work sell and there’s some pretty cool ones which I liked, especially the Switcheasy ones but my problem is that ever since I saw the Case-Mate POP for Galaxy S2 I’ve had my heart set on finding one for the iPhone 4 – it’s even got to the stage where I’ve contacted Case-Mate.. ..

I want this case but for iPhone 4... listening Case-Mate

It turns out they do sell a POP for the iPhone 4 but it doesn’t have the kick-stand which was a feature I really liked about the S2 case… gutted.com

So then I started to look at Cath Kidston cases – they’re girly and pretty and a great name to match but the high price point of them has really put me off.  I’ll happily pay £25 for a good iPhone 4 case but i’m not really willing to pay £40 inc delivery for a case – it’s just too much.

I did get given a screen protector to try out from work the other day as it’s a brand we’re thinking of stocking and I must say it’s excellent – I don’t know how i’ve coped without a screen protector for so long!  This one’s anti glare and anti fingerprint so it’s top notch and really does keep my screen crystal clear – so i’ve decided that i’d suggest a screen protector to anyone who has a capacitive touchscreen phone because they do work.

New Macbook Pro Case

macbook pro case

I got my hands on a new Macbook Pro Case the other day, as I was fed up of constantly getting smudges and finger prints on my Mac and nobody wanted to experience another yoghurt caused outburst, like when we were doing Vixen Radio – the yoghurt in my bag exploded and went all over my Mac and charger and all over my expensive bag – not good!

It’s a great macbook case, it’s pink which gets it brownie points from the start and it’s a snug fit so I know my macbook isn’t going anywhere.

Another reason I got this case is because it’s water resistant – so it should keep my macbook safe from yoghurt attacks!  Plus the material is quite thick so my mac shouldn’t feel any bumps and scrapes whilst it’s in my bag.

Now to decide what the next lot of macbook pro accessories I’m going to buy are??  I’m thinking a dock or a bookstand so I can stop keeping it in the settee!

Galaxy Tab

The Galaxy Tab might not have caused as much of a commotion as the iPad 2 , but I’ll tell you what – it’s one powerful little tab and it looks just as good as the iPad, if not a little better (dare i say it)

This is a cracking Galaxy Tab dock and it’s the official model, so the fit is perfect and all the functions work smootly, as expected.

Galaxy Tab Dock

What I really like about this dock though is that it transforms you Galaxy Tab into a multimedia hub, both on it’s own or through plugging a HDMI lead into your TV.  The orientation of the stand makes it super easy to use whilst docked and you don’t need to worry about running out of juice as the dock charges you Galaxy Tab whilst it’s docked – perfect all round

Let’s Not Forget The iPad

Ever since the iPad 2 came out a month ago, all i’ve heard about at work is iPad 2 this, iPad 2 that, but we shouldn’t forget how good the original iPad is!

Just because the ipad 2 is a bit thinner and faster and has a few new features – doesn’t mean the original iPad isn’t amazing anymore because it is and stockists are still getting in great new iPad accessories.

Take this iPad case for example – it’s quirky, specially made for the original ipad and looks like a book!

iPad Case

I like funny quirky ipad cases like that because they’re not boring and you can fool people into believing you read an actual book instead of an e book!!

Thoughts on the Motorola Xoom

There’s so many different phones and tablets available, that sometimes unless you know your stuff you can get very confused about what you’re buying, both model and accessories wise.  So i’m going to try and help us all out by taking a closer look at Motorola Xoom accessories.

First things first, a Motorola Xoom case - there’s plenty of cases to choose from out there.  I particularly like this one.

Motorola Xoom Case

It’s made by the same guys who sell some best selling iPad cases and ipad accessories and there’s a variety of colours to choose from.  But what I really like about the case is that fully protects your Xoom (might want to get a Motorola Xoom screen protector though – just to be safe) and at the same time works as a stand – which means you don’t have to invest in a Motorola Xoom desk stand.

A friend of mine has been on about getting a Motorola Xoom Car Holder for their Xoom, but i’m not convinced – personally i think the Xooms are too big to be used in the car – even for satnav functions – but each to their own.

Personally, I think once you’ve a good case for your Xoom, that you’re more or less sorted – other accessories come in time…

Don’t forget your Phone!

Seen as I now work with mobiles and tech, i figured it made sense to use my WordPress to talk about tech now and to keep my Tumblr as my personal blog…. so here’s my first tech post…

I know we’ve all been focusing on protecting our shiny new Ipad 2’s, with the Apple Ipad 2 smart cover or some of the other Ipad 2 cover styles out there; but let’s not forget about our Mobile Phones!

There’s been four HUGE phone releases this week: the Sim-Free Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the Sim Free Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, the Samsung Galaxy Ace and the Sim Free LG Optimus 2X and everyone one of those phones needs just as much protection as your Ipad 2!

Luckily, I’ve been having a nose around and the ever useful Mobile Fun seem to have once again answered our prayers.  If you’re a gaming freak who bought the Playstation partnered Xperia Play, then there’s plenty of Xperia Play cases to choose from.  I particularly like the Official Sony Ericsson Xperia play case, it’s sleek and stylish without being bulky and the pull tab’s a great idea for helping to remove your phone easily.

Xperia play cases

For the Xperia Arc, again there’s plenty to choose from, but I think my favourite of the Xperia Arc cases is the Invisible Shield as you still get to see the phone’s beauty – let’s be honest it is a gorgeous phone – so you don’t want to hide it away!  So, what better option than to protect it, without hiding it.

Xperia arc cases

With the Samsung Galaxy Ace cases, I think this Samsung Mobile Phone Sock is pretty cool and different: it’s nice and bright but still offers protection to the screen and back.

Galaxy ace cases

Finally, for LG Optimus 2X cases , I’d go for the LG CCH-120 Kickstand Hard Case, it gives full protection to the back of the phone, but with the added design of a kickstand, which is perfect for watching movies on your phone or just using it as a desk stand!

Optimus 2x cases

So, if you were lucky enough to get your hands on one of these great new phones, you’ve got no excuse for scratches!
